What Is Fire Safety Awareness Training?

SMS Europe’s Fire Safety Awareness training course is designed to give delegates a comprehensive understanding of how to respond to a fire in the workplace, as well as how to reduce the risk of them happening in the future.

The course teaches delegates about the causes and risks of fires, the evacuation process, and appropriate fire precautions and prevention methods that should exist in any workplace. It also teaches delegates how to safely and effectively use a fire extinguisher.

Our Fire Safety Awareness training course is designed to ensure the safety and wellbeing of both your employees and your property while keeping your business compliant with Health & Safety regulations.

Who Is Fire Safety Awareness Training For?

Fire Safety Awareness training is suitable for any person, in any workplace, in any business or industry. In fact, under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, it’s compulsory for all employers to provide staff with information and training on fire safety.

Fire Safety Awareness training is especially useful as part of a new employee’s induction process, or as a foundation for employees who wish to extend their Health & Safety responsibilities by becoming a designated Fire Marshal within the workplace.

Existing employees are required to have their fire safety training refreshed if any new or increased fire risks are identified by a risk assessment.

What Does the Fire Safety Awareness Training Course Cover?

The course is delivered in a classroom environment and lasts approximately two hours. There is no official assessment element involved, but there is an informal test to gauge delegates’ understanding.

The content of the course teaches delegates about:

  • General fire precautions to be observed in all workplaces
  • Fire statistics
  • Causes of fire and ignition sources
  • The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005
  • Fire prevention measures
  • Fire extinguisher use and maintenance
  • Emergency and evacuation procedures
  • Proper use of fire fighting equipment
  • Knowledge of the organisations fire procedures
  • Action to be taken on hearing a fire alarm
  • Location of assembly points
  • Special arrangements for staff with disabilities and visitors

Upon completion of the course, delegates will receive an internationally recognised and respected Fire Safety Awareness certificate accredited by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), the world’s leading membership organisation for safety and health professionals.

What are the Benefits of Fire Safety Awareness Training?

  • Ensures the safety and wellbeing of your workers -- Ensuring the safety and wellbeing of your staff is crucial in any workplace. Fire Safety Awareness training provides them with the knowledge and tools to respond to a fire in a safe and sensible way, which not only benefits them as individuals, but as a collective workforce.
  • Protects your business’ premises -- While the safety of your staff is the number one priority for any employer, protecting your business’ premises is also important. A fire can start easily and spread quickly, causing a tremendous amount of damage to your property and equipment. This can result in a huge cost for your business and severely disrupt your operations. Fire Safety Awareness reduces the risk of this happening, making it an extremely worthwhile investment.
  • Reduces potentially devastating incidents in the workplace -- The effects of a fire in the workplace (or any environment, for that matter) can be potentially devastating. Lives can be lost, property can be damaged beyond repair, and your business can be brought to a screeching halt. Despite being easily preventable, workplace fires are more common than you might think, with more than 22,000 incidents being reported in the UK each year. With Fire Safety Awareness training, you can help to safeguard your staff and business from the potentially disastrous effects of a fire.
  • An effective and efficient course -- The course is designed to provide you with all the necessary fire safety knowledge, information and training in just two hours. Thanks to our high-impact training methods, you get the most bang for your buck, allowing you to get back to work as soon as possible.
  • Keeps your business compliant -- Fire safety awareness is incredibly important not only to ensure the safety and wellbeing of your staff, but to keep your business on the right side of the law. Undertaking Fire Safety Awareness training keeps your business compliant with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. Failure to do so could potentially lead to prosecution, fines or legal claims.
